Self-taught herbalist, model & creative spirit Courtney Coll is into gardening and growing plants. She lives together with her boyfriend and the dog Mohican near the beach in Los Angeles, but split her time between city and the mountains where her family owns a hemp farm.

WHEN DID YOU START GARDENING AND WHERE DOES THE PASSION COME FROM?
I started getting into gardening about 6 years ago, when I was working on a farm up in northern California. I found myself always intrigued about how plants grow and how each herb can help you treat your body in a different way. I am a self taught herbalist and learned from playing around with my copper distiller.

WHEN DID YOU START YOUR APOTHECARY BUSINESS AND WHY?
I started my apothecary business when covid started, because I felt very attached to the idea of informing people about how they can treat themselves naturally. I was always juggling whether I wanted to turn my fun hobby into a business but when covid because a thing I was able to dive in and really start from the ground up. Pumping my garden in the backyard, I only use what I am growing to create the products. Which makes everything because even more limited in quantity.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY "PLANT RHYTHMS"?
Plant rhythms means the rhythmic cycle of plants! Plants don’t sleep so they are always in another cycle. Putting your energy into the plants creates the rhythms and cycle in a range from leaf movement, flower blossom, photosynthesis and much more!

WHAT IS ON THE GARDENING SCHEDULE AT THE MOMENT?
In the garden right now there are beets, arugula, kale, chard, radish, calendula, tulsi, and more on the way. I am currently not working on anymore new herbal products as much as i am just keeping up with the current collection! The distiller is a long process that takes up a lot of time to get it just right!

YOU SEEM LIKE A REALLY "DIY" PERSON - WHAT DRIVES YOU?

My brain is constantly working and thinking of ideas and moving faster than I can. Haha! I really like making and creating everything that I can. I think when you are up in the mountains you really are thinking and having to be creative off of what you have - things are more limited on what you can buy, so living off the land and creating your own stuff from nature - plants is the way of living!

WHO & WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE INSPIRES ME!
